A section is a portion of a musical composition that is a complete, but not necessarily mutually exclusive, and usually not fully independent, musical idea. This contrasts wth a passage, which is a short portion of a composition that may or may not be a complete or independent musical idea. Among the various types of sections are introduction, movement, recapitulation, interlude, chorus, conclusion, fadeout, and coda. Many simple songs contain just one or two sections, consisting of the verse(s) and the chorus.
