A minim, also called a half note, is a note that has a duration of two quarter notes and one half of a whole note. It has a hollow notehead, slightly less elongated than that of a whole note, and has a stem but no flags. The minim acquired its name because it was the smallest of the five note values used in early medieval music notation.
