A violin concerto is a concerto for solo violin (but, occasionally, two or more violins) and orchestra. Violin concertos traditionally have three movements, although some modern composers have written them with four movements. Widely considered to be among the greatest are those by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
