Standard Pitch Definition

Standard pitch, also called concert pitch, is the reference pitch to which all musical instruments are tuned for a concert, opera or other performance. Although it has varied widely over time and from place to place, today it is most commonly set at 440 Hz for the A above middle C (also called A4 because it occurs in the octave that starts with the fourth C key on a standard 88-key piano keyboard).
