Process Music Definition

Process music is music that is created by a process rather than being created directly by a composer. Such processes can be based on various things, including random elements, the speed of the performers, extended repetition, electronic circuits, mathematical formulae, and other, simultaneously performed music. The composer may or may not want the process to be audible in the music. Process music traces its roots back to the 1940s and came into prominence in the 1960s. It is typically associated with minimalism.
