Muzak is both a brand name and a generic term for light, prerecorded background music transmitted mainly to stores, restaurants, factories and other businesses on a subscription basis. Also sometimes referred to as elevator music, such music is designed to help promote business goals, including increasing purchases by customers in stores and boosting productivity in the workplace.
