Musical Theater Definition  

Musical theater refers to plays or movies that combine singing, spoken dialogue, acting and dancing. Also called musicals, musical theater evolved from light opera in the early twentieth century. It differs from conventional opera in several ways, including that it contains much more spoken dialog, the music is generally popular music style rather than classical music, it is almost always performed in the local language or English, it typically includes dancing as an essential part of the storytelling, and it utilizes electronic amplification.
