Engraving is the process of creating high quality music notation. Originally it involved the physical engraving and the use of metal punches (for creating notes and other music symbols) by highly skilled craftsmen on metal plates for use in printing presses. However, in recent decades it has been accomplished almost entirely through the use of specialized computer software.
