A conductor is a person who leads the performance of an orchestra, chorus, or other musical group. Also called music director, a fundamental task is to stress the beat in order to synchronize playing by the various performers. Additional tasks typically include planning the group's repertoire, selecting, studying and making appropriate adjustments to scores, and scheduling and leading rehearsals.
