Concert Band Definition

A concert band is an ensemble that uses woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, and sometimes additional instruments such as double basses or bass guitars. While the instrumentation is similar, concert bands differ from marching bands in that their performances are usually in the form of stationary concerts rather than while marching. In addition to marching band pieces, their repertoire includes original wind compositions, transcriptions or arrangements of orchestral compositions, light music and popular music melodies. Other terms for concert band include symphonic band, wind ensemble, wind band, symphonic winds, wind orchestra, symphonic wind ensemble and wind symphony.
