Augmented Fifth Definition

An augmented fifth is an interval produced by extending a perfect fifth by one semitone to eight semitones. Thus, for example, whereas the interval from C to G is a perfect fifth containing seven semitones, both the intervals from B to G and from C to G sharp are augmented fifths, spanning eight semitones. An augmented fifth enharmonically equivalent to a minor sixth, and its inversion is a diminished fourth.
